Huichol Beaded Earrings Handmade Red Sun
Huichol Art
Huichol art is a cultural expression of spiritual beliefs. The symbols and color used by the Huichol Indians tell the story. These works of arts are highly collected due to the intricacy and limited number of artists that produce them. The beads are placed in beeswax to form a colorful and artistic expression of all things sacred to the Huichol community.
White represents the clouds,
Blue water elements,
Green the heavens,
Black the ocean and the land of the departed,
Red the east,
Yellow and Orange the sacred sun and its offerings.
This beautiful, beaded egg is made from the Mara’akame Kawitero Don Andres Carrillo’s family. The Huichol homelands include the rugged mountains and the Sierra de Nayarit north of Guadalajara. The Huichol, and their religion revolves around agriculture. The deer is the most sacred animal. Corn is the source of all life. Peyote is a means of communication with the gods. The unity of these three elements-deer, corn, and peyote is the absolute core of Huichol beliefs.
